Ohh newborns… the foundation of my business and basically my favourite thing in the world, next to my own kids of course (most of the time!). As the families I work with grow, I get asked a lot about including older siblings in sessions, and how I might handle a toddler that is not too keen on being photographed with the newest addition. My approach? We simply make the photo about them! Sweet Hannah was having a tough day adjusting to becoming a big sister, so while mom snuggled Bennett, Hannah got to be the centre of attention and sit on a box-a very exciting thing for a 2-year-old! She was briefly entertained by her favourite show on dad’s phone, and when she seemed distracted, we positioned Bennett into the crate next to her. We didn’t force Hannah to do anything she wasn’t ready for, and before we knew it, she was all smiles, and excited to give her brother a little kiss! Sometimes a little patience can really go a long way when it comes to toddlers! Can we also talk about the glow and smiles these parents have? They were both beaming with so much pride and love for their family. It has been such a pleasure to photograph the W family over the past few years!
